Everyone kind of knew, but it all got swept under the rug after a while. Sooner or later, someone was bound to spill, but Charlotte never thought it would happen at an event like this.
The gossip about her being the Hawk family's heiress had finally died down a bit, but now that people knew she was Echo, her name was back at the top of the trending list.
Someone online wrote, “Seriously, what door did God even close for Charlotte?”
The whole venue was still buzzing. Charlotte just glanced at the news on her phone, then closed the page like it was nothing.
“Drink some water.” Anthony noticed she was on her phone, but didn’t say much. He twisted open a thermos, gently held her chin, and helped her take a few careful sips.
Charlotte watched him with the headband on while she drank. Honestly, it didn’t look half bad on him. He could probably wear it later to make their daughter laugh.
Suddenly, Shirley, sitting beside her, let out a shriek. “Kenneth!”
She was practically bouncing out of her seat, shouting herself hoarse.
“Charlotte, you really shouldn’t have cured Shirley,” Andrew complained. He was stuck wearing a headband too, waving a big cheering sign with zero enthusiasm, and throwing Shirley a look full of dramatic resentment.
She really should have just stayed a stutterer…
Charlotte and Anthony caught Andrew’s sulky look at the same time. They glanced at each other, both trying not to laugh.
“So, Shirley, do you like Kenneth?” Charlotte teased, her eyes full of mischief.
“Mhm!” Shirley nodded, shaking her cheering board like her life depended on it.
