Laurel and Fiona completely lost their composure. They now fully believed Mrs. Windsor's words.
Laurel was so furious she nearly fainted. “That ungrateful wretch! After I raised her for so many years! The moment she found a rich family, she stopped answering my calls!”
Fiona’s eyes lit up with greed. “Mom, we have to go find her,” she urged.
Mrs. Windsor threw cold water on their plans. “But Ann told everyone that you never raised her. She said she lived on Selene’s money her whole life and that you abused and beat her. She didn’t have a single good thing to say about you.”
“She’s lying!” Laurel roared, aggrieved. “My husband died of cancer early on. I worked day and night at the textile mill to support her and even put her through college! That heartless girl!”
Mrs. Windsor sighed again. “Laurel, you’ve been deceived by Ann and her mother. You’ve been used by Selene.”
“Mom, we can’t let this ungrateful wretch get away with this,” Fiona reminded Laurel. “She has to pay us back for raising her!”
“And that Selene,” Mrs. Windsor added. “She looks so kind, but how could she be so cruel? Tricking her own sister-in-law into raising her daughter for her. Now that they’ve made it to the top, they’re spreading lies about you.”
“Your Ann is the young lady of the Harvest family now,” Mrs. Windsor said. “The matriarch has already said that Ann will inherit half of the family’s billions. Whatever she wants, the family gives her. She’s completely spoiled.”
Fiona gritted her teeth. “That little bitch! She flew the coop and became a princess, and now she dares to disown her own family!”
“And then there’s Selene,” Mrs. Windsor continued. “She had a son with Mr. Quinn. The Quinn family is one of the eight great families in Capital City. Mr. Quinn is already in the process of divorcing his wife for her. Selene is about to become the mistress of a wealthy family, all thanks to her son.”
Laurel trembled with rage. “That bitch! I won’t let her get away with this!”
“Honestly,” Mrs. Windsor said, “how much money can you make working yourselves to death every day? They used you first, they wronged you first. It’s only right for you to demand compensation.”
