The Harvest siblings stayed in their parents' room, eating and talking.
Meanwhile, in the vast dining room, a lavish spread of delicacies sat on the table, with only the matriarch and Ann present.
The matriarch was upset that no one else had come to eat, but she couldn’t say much.
“Ann, don’t you be upset either,” she said comfortingly. “They didn’t grow up with you, so the bond isn’t as strong. But they did spend the whole day looking for you. Jackie even wore her feet raw. They did their part.”
“Grandma, it was my fault to begin with,” Ann replied. “How could I possibly blame them?”
Making an excuse, Ann went back to her room and secretly called Selene.
Selene answered the phone from downstairs in the apartment building where Ann's adoptive brother and his wife lived.
She was both distressed and anxious to hear that Ann was being ignored and isolated by the Harvest family.
Just then, she saw Laurel and Fiona Yves, hurrying into a black luxury car.
“Ann, something’s come up. I’ll call you back later.”
Selene quickly hung up and followed them.
During the time she and her daughter were hiding abroad, when had Laurel’s family gotten connected with rich people?
Inside the black luxury car, Mrs. Windsor wrinkled her nose in disgust, covering her mouth as she looked at Laurel and Fiona, who gawked like country bumpkins.
Laurel forced a smile. “We don’t know you. What is it you want with us?”
Mrs. Windsor sighed. “It doesn’t matter who I am. I just couldn’t stand by and do nothing, so I came to give you a friendly warning.”
Laurel and Fiona exchanged a look.
Mrs. Windsor asked, “Laurel, is your daughter’s name Ann?”
Laurel’s expression immediately became guarded. “How do you know my daughter’s name?”
