“Gideon!”
Claudia stared in shock as Gideon’s white coat was rapidly stained red with blood. She couldn't believe he had taken the blow for her.
Gideon held Claudia protectively in his arms, only releasing her after the assailant was completely subdued. He then instructed those around him to quickly clear the hallway, disperse the onlookers, and hand the attacker over to the police.
An hour later, Gideon was settled in a hospital room.
Knowing Claudia was still on the clock and understanding her professional diligence, Gideon told her, “You go back to work. You can come by after your shift.”
Filled with gratitude, Claudia said, “I’ll get back to work then. Text me what you’d like to eat, and I’ll buy it for you on my way back after my shift.”
—
Around five in the evening, Claudia finished her work and headed to Gideon’s room. At the door, she learned that no one from the Harvest family had come to visit yet, which she found hard to believe. This was Harvest Hospital, filled with people connected to the family. The news must have spread like wildfire. How could they not know?
Claudia was puzzled but didn't dare to ask.
She knocked and entered the room to find Gideon alone, dressed in a patient gown and lying on his side while on the phone.
After he hung up, Claudia walked over. “Gideon, about the patient who died during childbirth… is the situation very difficult?”
“These things happen more often than you’d think,” Gideon reassured her. “Every hospital has a few incidents with upset families each year. It’s already been handled.”
