But on second thought, it wasn't that surprising. Someone as spoiled as Queena had probably made other enemies, so it made sense she was being targeted as soon as she returned.
It would be best if this other person kept her busy, leaving her no time for anything else.
When I didn't say anything, Ryan quickly added, "It really wasn't my fault. It was those other people who just rushed in. But don't worry, I've got my guys looking for her again. As long as she doesn't leave the country, we'll definitely find her."
"Okay," I replied softly.
Finding someone else might be difficult, but Queena would surely stick to five-star hotels and famous shopping malls, making her easy to track.
Ryan chuckled. "By the way, where are you now? You still can't come back?"
Before I could answer, Tess placed a bowl of soup in front of me. "Madam, this soup is very good for pregnant women. Please have some!"
The words were barely out of her mouth when an explosion of sound came from the other end of the line. "Preg... pregnant! You're pregnant?"
Ryan was screaming at the top of his lungs, making my ears ache. I quickly held the phone away from my head.
"Could you keep it down?"
Ryan: "So, is that why you're not back? Because you're pregnant? You're not planning to secretly have the baby on your own, are you?"
From his tone, it sounded like he was already picturing me as a tragic figure, wandering the streets alone.
Before I could speak, Ryan said anxiously, "No way! I'm the kid's uncle! I have to play with him! I'm going to teach him how to play basketball, how to fight."
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Calm down. I'm not planning to have the baby in secret. It's just too early in the pregnancy right now. I was thinking of coming back when I'm further along."
Ryan finally calmed down. "Oh, okay. That's good."
"Wait, whose baby is it? Aren't you divorced? Don't tell me you secretly got me a new brother-in-law!"
I rubbed my temples. At that moment, I finally understood why Steven found Ryan annoying sometimes. The guy was truly loud, and his imagination ran wild.
But it was normal for him to be confused. Steven and I were indeed divorced, so for me to suddenly be pregnant while single was quite baffling.
"It's Steven's."
Hearing this, Ryan completely lost it. "Steven's a bastard! He's always been shady with Verna. How could you be pregnant with his child?"
This wasn't something I could explain easily in a few words.
Ryan sighed. "So last time, when your attitude changed, it wasn't because Steven forced you... you actually like him? Even though you're my sister, I have to say, this is just wrong. Steven is nothing compared to Horace!"
"You threw away Horace for a bastard like him. It's really not worth it, you know?"
I completely understood how Ryan felt. So much had happened recently that even I was having trouble processing it all.
"Alright, I know what you mean. Let's not talk about this for now. Just focus on finding Queena for me. You have to find her."
