Staring at him was getting a little boring.
I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through the news feed, but my attention was snagged by the headline: 'Horace Hospitalized'.
A mix of emotions churned inside me. I hadn't heard from Horace in so long. His mother wouldn't even take my calls, probably because she wanted to cut all ties between us.
I sighed. The gossip columns were all the same—they confirmed he was still in the hospital but offered no concrete details.
Since Horace was a celebrity, his agency was undoubtedly keeping a tight lid on the situation.
There was no point in reading any further, so I closed the app.
I'd find some time to visit Horace after my next trip to Uncle Julian's.
An hour later, Steven was only halfway done mopping the floor. It wasn't that he was slow; I was deliberately finding ways to give him more work.
“Steven, you missed a spot in the corner.”
“Move that potted plant; you need to clean under it too.”
“And get me a glass of water...”
Under my constant interruptions, Steven was spinning around like a top.
Watching him rush around, a mischievous smile spread across my face. I raised my phone and snapped a picture of him from a few feet away.
In the photo, Steven looked surprisingly handsome mopping the floor in his brown loungewear, almost like a model in a photoshoot.
I mused to myself that with his looks, he could probably make it big in show business.
On the other hand, if our child inherited those good genes, they'd at least be able to get by on their looks, even if life got tough.
Just as I was lost in that happy thought, Steven suddenly leaned in, startling me so much I nearly dropped my phone.
His expression darkened as he stared at me. “What are you doing, acting so suspiciously?”
I took a sip of water, feigning composure. “Nothing, just reading the news!”
His gaze intensified. “Reading the news makes your ears turn red?”
I touched my ear—it was hot. I quickly made an excuse. “Oh, the heat must be on too high.”
He didn't press the issue, but I could feel the tension in the air.
Sure enough, he changed the subject. “Were you thinking about Horace again?”
