I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 697

As he spoke, something seemed to cross his mind and he let out a deep sigh. I served him some soup and ate with him. Mr. Lancaster Sr. watched me with a complex yet relieved expression. “After all the twists and turns, it seems fate has finally brought the right people together.”

I didn’t quite understand what he meant, but I smiled in response. After breakfast, Steven still hadn’t returned, and I was thinking of going back to bed for a nap when my phone suddenly buzzed with a text message—

“Zephyra, it’s Rachel, your old best friend. There are some truths from the past I need to tell you. Meet me at the gate right away. Don’t tell Steven. He’s a bad person!”

She sent an address—it was the gate to the old man’s estate.

Rachel.

Myron had told me she was a good friend of mine, and Horace’s friend, too. I hesitated for a moment. I could judge for myself whether Steven was a bad person, but my focus was on the word ‘truths,’ and a strange unease settled in my heart. Finally, I got up and headed outside.

To my complete surprise, as I reached the gate, I saw a beautiful woman on the phone. I recognized her as Rachel at a glance. She had appeared in my dreams, too, but in them, she always died young.

Her hair was in a high ponytail. When she saw me, her eyes instantly turned red. She hung up the phone and rushed toward me.

“You’ve been with him this whole time. Haven’t you heard him say anything about dealing with Horace? He wants to drive Horace to his death! The whole world knows except for you!”

“Do you even know who Horace is? You were childhood friends! You were in a car crash together, and he nearly lost his leg saving you! When he heard your marriage was unhappy, he gave up his treatment abroad—the big idiot was stupid enough to rush all the way back just to help you!”

“Has Steven ever told you any of this? I bet he wouldn’t dare. After everything Horace sacrificed for you, if you knew the truth, how could he ever get back together with you and be all lovey-dovey again?”

“Now he’s trying to destroy Horace, are you really just going to stand by and do nothing?!”
