I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 658

Horace held my arm with one hand and a bag with the breakfast he’d bought for me in the other.

"Not only are you sharing a room with him, but you're also going out with him. Zephyra, you didn't look up our relationship last night, did you?" His tone was heavy, his gaze shifting from Steven back to my face. "Is it because you don't have a phone? If you don't want to use mine, I can take you to buy one, okay?"

Even now, Horace's voice was gentle.

If it had been Steven, he would have definitely scowled and lost his temper.

I paused, an odd feeling welling up inside me. I didn't want to hurt him, so my voice softened unconsciously, but my tone was resolute.

"I did my research. About us, about Steven and me, I looked it all up. You're right, we were close, and maybe I really am your fiancée. But I told you last night—I have amnesia."

"I don't remember the past, and I don't remember you. If I ever promised you some kind of morally questionable future, I take it back. Thank you for coming to find me. Maybe we'll meet again, okay?"

Horace froze. Strands of hair fell across his brow, and his bloodshot eyes stared at me. "Zephyra... if you looked it up, why don't you believe me?"

He looked deeply hurt, and his voice grew more urgent.

"Don't trust Steven. He won't let you have a phone because he's afraid you'll find out too much and refuse to go back with me."

"You really don't like Steven. When you divorced, you walked away with nothing. You were so desperate to leave him you didn't even want his money. Don't go down a path you'll regret. Besides, what kind of good husband is a man who won't even spend money on you?"

"He probably won't give you any money now either, right? That's just how he is, always trying to control you financially. He has an intense need for control, but that's not love. Zephyra, he will always love someone else, but I will always love you."

...

I heard Horace's words, but I still had to go with Steven.

Horace didn't stop me this time. His eyes were red and hot, his handsome face a mask of desolation and defeat.

And the obvious pain of being abandoned by me.

Throughout it all, neither I nor Steven had said a word.

It wasn't until we were on the way to the fishing spot that Steven finally spoke, asking quietly, "Why aren't you curious why I don't give you money?"

I was nibbling on a small bread roll and said matter-of-factly, "You're bankrupt, aren't you? Where would you get the money to give me?"

Steven: "..."

He glanced at Gordon, who was driving.
