“Is that so?” Steven’s expressionless face tightened as he heard the last sentence. He narrowed his eyes and sneered, “You think you’re worthy?”
“If it weren’t for Zephyra, you wouldn’t even be on my radar. If she hadn't protected you, you wouldn't have the chance to stand here barking at me.”
“Horace, Zephyra protected you, so I saved you. And instead of being grateful, you dare to compete with me for her?”
He glanced at Horace's handsome face with disdain. “Let me tell you something. I don’t care about destiny. I want Zephyra, and no matter who’s in her heart, she—will be mine.”
…
I held Gordon’s phone, digging through information for what felt like an eternity. Gordon tried to take it back several times to help, but I dodged him every time.
The news was a mix of fact and fiction.
But the stories about me and Horace were everywhere, including a video of my passionate declaration of love for him at the singing competition finale where I publicly announced our relationship.
I skimmed the comments; some people were wishing us a painful death, while others were shipping us with their entire being.
I never would have imagined my past self being so bold, confessing my love to a man in front of a massive crowd, especially a top-tier singer on the verge of stardom. It was unthinkable.
However, I couldn’t find anything about me and Horace getting married.
My scalp tingled as I weakly asked, “When did Steven and I get divorced?”
Gordon’s eyes flickered. “It was finalized on the day of your accident at sea,” he said softly.
My heart clenched, and I bit my lip hard. After a long moment, I asked in a voice several shades lower, “You said before that I cheated on my husband with some boy toy. Was that Horace?”
When I’d asked Gordon earlier if he knew Horace, he had stammered, unable to get a single word out.
But now, his expression shifted subtly. “Yes, it was Horace. He was the boy toy you had an affair with. Ma’am… why are you suddenly asking about him? You haven’t… regained your memory, have you?”
So I really did have an affair.
My heart grew heavy.
It was hard to accept that I used to be such a fickle, unfaithful woman.
“No, I haven’t,” I said. “I just saw him.”
Gordon looked so shocked he nearly fainted. “Th-th-then what? Does Mr. Lancaster know?”
I handed the phone back to him. “He knows. The two of them met.”
Gordon fell silent, then asked, “Mr. Lancaster… he’s not going to fight him again, is he?”
I was stunned, unable to imagine Steven and Horace coming to blows. They both looked so refined and civilized, especially Horace with his gentle demeanor. “They’ve fought before?”
A smile that didn't reach his eyes appeared on Gordon's face. “What do you think?”
“…Because of me?”
Gordon’s smile widened. “Of course. What else would make Mr. Lancaster raise his hand? The only things that can make him lose his mind are you and his grandfather. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even blink if the company went bankrupt and he became a beggar tomorrow. He’s completely unflappable.”
