Go Back and I Rule There novel Chapter 44

Before anyone else could react to the words, Rosalind had bolted out of the room.

She moved with incredible speed, grabbing a wooden stick from somewhere, a cold fury brewing in her eyes.

A crowd of neighbors, just back from their shopping, had already gathered at the end of the alley.

“What’s going on here?”

“They’re here for the Yates. Said she killed a patient.”

“No way, really?”

“Why not? You can never be sure with medicine.”

“I just had her work on my neck yesterday. Do you think I'll be okay?”

“If this is true, we can't go there anymore…”

Listening to the murmurs around her, Mrs. Yates Sr.'s hand gripping her cane turned white, and her legs trembled.

The man confronting her, however, just laughed arrogantly. “No wonder you’re living so comfortably here, old woman. It’s because no one knows what you’ve done.”

He shook his head with a sneer. “You really think you're still who you used to be? Your practice is obsolete, yet you still dare to steal business from the Gonzalez family.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Move,” Mrs. Yates Sr. said coldly, trying to push past him with her cane.

The man blocked her path, bullying her. “I said, old cripple, stop playing dumb. Wasn't it your idea to send that little brat to the hospital?”

Rosalind? Mrs. Yates Sr. looked up sharply. “You mean Rosalind?”

“I don’t know what the girl's name is,” the man said with a contemptuous smile. “If my aunt hadn't sent me personally, I wouldn't have bothered. Old cripple, I bet you’d love to attend the Turner family's medical symposium. Here, a gift for you!”

He tossed an “invitation” at Mrs. Yates Sr. “You think you’re so skilled? Go on, try treating Mr. Turner. Let’s see if you, you old hag…”

Crack!

Before he could finish his sentence, Rosalind sent a kick flying.

At the mention of the “police,” Mrs. Yates Sr. stepped forward and pulled Rosalind away. She took a deep breath and faced the man. “George, you’re here for me. Say what you have to say, but leave my granddaughter out of it.”

“I’ve already given you the invitation,” George said, shaking out his arm with an air of superiority. “We Gonzalezes are generous, unlike you with your secretive practice. My aunt is giving you a chance to publicly suck up to the Turner family.”

Mrs. Yates Sr. stared at him. “What is Grace planning now?”

“Look at the state you’re in. Who would bother planning anything against you?” George scoffed. “Your skills are worthless. If you’re too scared to go, just say so. Afraid you’ll use the wrong medicine and kill someone again?”

At his words, the onlookers exchanged uneasy glances and began to point and whisper.

Mrs. Yates Sr. stood frozen, her hand trembling…

George laughed wildly. “I knew you wouldn’t—”

“Three days from now? The Turner family?”

Suddenly, an amused voice cut him off.
