He was a man of science, but he believed it was better to be safe than sorry.
Most importantly, why would the young master give his personal pendant to Cure-Master!? It made absolutely no sense!
David didn't dare to ask.
Smith, however, had the courage to speak up. “Sir, Cure-Master figured out that I work for you.”
“That’s to be expected.” Warner strolled on, a faint smile touching his lips as he thought of her cleverness. “She’s always been more perceptive than others.”
Smith breathed a sigh of relief, then quickly pledged his loyalty. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell the chairman your secret.”
“Secret?” Warner looked at his fingertips, his tone deliberate. “What secret do I have?”
Thinking his boss didn't trust him, Smith blurted out everything he knew. “Cure-Master already told me. Your relationship isn’t real. It’s a contractual one, just to fulfill her grandma’s wishes.”
A contractual relationship? What contractual relationship? David’s face was a mask of confusion.
Warner’s long strides came to a halt, the hand at his side tensing slightly.
Smith wore a knowing expression. “Boss, you must have agreed to play along with Cure-Master’s act to avoid the chairman’s pressure to get married, right? I get it.”
At his words, the smile in Warner’s eyes slowly turned to ice.
His lips thinned into a hard line, his sharply defined features shadowed with a cold gravity. His voice was flat, devoid of any inflection. “She said it was fake?”
“Yeah.” Smith was still nodding, completely oblivious to the consequences of his statement.
Warner turned to look at him, his eyes paling. His voice was so low it seemed the wind could carry it away. “It’s going to be real.”
What? Smith didn't quite hear him and quickened his pace to get closer to his boss.
