The elderly residents of the lane, just back from their morning exercises, saw Rosalind standing in front of the clinic, fiddling with something.
“Rosalind, what are you up to?” someone asked, craning their neck.
Rosalind yawned, looking as if she hadn’t quite woken up yet. Her beauty had a lazy charm. “Livestreaming.”
Livestreaming? The neighbors were intrigued.
Although streaming was common now—they all browsed Tik Tok and saw it on their phones—they had never seen it happen in real life. They all gathered around to watch her set up.
Rosalind didn’t mind the audience. She chose the video platform with the highest traffic.
The platform had a policy to support new creators.
It didn't matter if it was a new account; as long as you went live at a scheduled time, you would get a three-minute promotional boost.
Rosalind had researched it yesterday. Even a small boost could bring a hundred people into the stream.
After an hour of streaming, the platform would increase the promotion time.
But whether the viewers stayed depended on the streamer's own abilities.
Typically, on video platforms, drama, theatrics, and flaunting wealth were the fastest ways to attract an audience.
Rosalind did none of that. She simply wrote three words in the stream description: “Healing the sick.”
She didn’t bother with any other flashy details.
She turned on the camera, pointing it at Veritas Medical’s new sign.
After a moment, she decided it didn’t look quite right. She sat down at a wooden table, on which she had placed wild ginseng and deer antler. She aimed the camera at her upper body, focusing mainly on her hands.
It was a faceless stream, meant to cultivate a traditional medicine atmosphere.
Once everything was set up, Rosalind shared the stream link to Facebook.
She had previously talked to Warner about Mrs. Yates Sr.’s dream: to make healthcare and medicine affordable for everyone.
Livestreaming was the fastest way to achieve that goal.
[MakingTheGrade has entered the stream.]
[Admirer has entered the stream.]
…
Likely because of the share, Rosalind’s stream was suddenly flooded with over a hundred people, all online at the same time.
[Admirer: No way, are there really people who would let the last-place student treat them?]
[NoFailGrind: That's why I called you guys over! It's a joke! You don't want to miss this!]
Clearly, a large portion of the hundred-plus viewers had come to see Rosalind make a fool of herself.
[MakingTheGrade: A community college student dares to treat patients?]
The doubts kept rolling in, but Rosalind remained unaffected. Watching the viewer count rise, she unmuted her microphone. Controversy created buzz, and she wasn’t about to waste free traffic.
“Welcome, new friends, to the stream. Today is Veritas Medical’s first day, and the first three callers will receive a free consultation. If you have any questions, you can join the call and see for yourself if I can heal the sick.”
