That evening, Emily received the three hundred thousand dollars from Wilson, and then she called Betty, asking her if she needed money lately.
Betty chuckled, "How did you know? I've been job hunting since I got back, but it's been a fruitless endeavor. I plan to open a coffee shop with some friends and I want to decorate it according to my preferred style. However, the initial investment is quite hefty."
Emily laughed, "Wilson told me about it. He really wants to help you, but you turned him down."
Betty paused for a moment before she said softly, "I don't want to owe him money."
"He really wants to help you. He’s already transferred the money to me, and he asked me to give it to you under my name," Emily laughed, "Wilson has your best interests at heart."
Betty's laughter was gentle, mixed with a touch of shyness . "No need. I can figure it out on my own."
"I've already agreed!" Emily replied cheerily, "Just pretend that you don't know about it and consider it a loan from me. Otherwise, I wouldn't know how to explain it to Wilson."
After some thought, Betty agreed, "As soon as I get my money, I'll repay him right away."
"Great, I'll transfer the three hundred thousand dollars to you now," Emily said.
"Thank you, Emily."
"We're friends, no need for politeness!"
After a bit more small talk, Emily hung up and quickly transferred the three hundred thousand dollars to Betty.
Once the money was sent, Emily let out a sigh of relief.
The matter was settled smoothly and Emily didn't dwell on it any further.
The next morning, she went to work as usual.
Not long after she left, Ms. Simmons took Kya to the supermarket for groceries. When they return, they were stopped by a young woman in front of their apartment building.
"Well," Ms. Simmons hesitated, "Is this really appropriate?"
"Why wouldn't it be? Mr. James is doing this entirely for Ms. Sullivan. If you accept the gifts on her behalf, it would give them a chance to reconcile as a couple in the future," the woman glanced at Kya, "It's tough for Ms. Sullivan to raise a child on her own. I believe you'd want her to find some support, wouldn't you?"
Ms. Simmons knew that Emily and Charlie had recently broken up after a major argument, and Charlie hadn't been around for quite some time.
Emily hadn't shown much on the surface, but Ms. Simmons could tell she was hurting.
Now it seemed that Charlie still had feelings for Emily, but Emily was too stubborn to reconcile.
Ms. Simmons considered for a moment and agreed, "Alright, I'll accept the gifts on Emily's behalf. Thanks for Mr. James' kindness."
"I should be thanking you. If I didn't complete this task, Mr. James would have my head!" The woman adjusted her sunglasses and handed all the items to Ms. Simmons, instructing, "Please keep these well hidden, and don't let Ms. Sullivan know for now."
Ms. Simmons nodded and replied, "I understand!"
