In the next few days, Charlie got sucked into a whirlwind of social events, which meant he hadn't visited the Bright Commercial Center in a while.
On Friday evening, when Estelle came over for dinner, Kya complained to her, "Uncle Charlie hasn't told me a story in days. Mom says he's busy, but I miss him."
Estelle helped her build a block tower. "He misses you too. He'll come see you when he's less swamped."
Kya beamed, "Then I'll save the last piece of milk candy for him."
"Good idea!"
They chatted and laughed for a while before Estelle got up to bring out the dishes Emily had prepared. As she set the table, she asked, "You and Charlie had a row?"
"No!" Emily turned to her and said firmly, "Really, we didn't!"
Everything had been fine in the emergency room that day, and nothing seemed off at the office either.
"Something's fishy!" Estelle raised an eyebrow.
Emily's lips curled into a sarcastic smile, "This is more like it. This is the Charlie I know!"
Wasn't this just his usual pattern with relationships? They just went from passionate to lukewarm, and then to cold.
She'd seen it all before, and she never thought she'd be the exception.
"So, what's your game plan?" Estelle asked.
Emily closed her eyes for a moment, slowly shaking her head. "I don't know. Maybe once things are over between us, I'll take Kya and go back to Oakdale City."
Estelle chuckled, "Planning on running away again, are you?"
Emily frowned but didn't respond.
Without the memory of Princess X, Dragon had regained his energy and happiness. But Estelle preferred the Dragon who constantly talked about Princess X, dreaming about traveling to outer space with her.
At that time, Dragon had sparkling eyes filled with hope for the future, as if he truly had a human soul.
But the Dragon now seemed more like an emotionless robot.
"It doesn't matter." Estelle chuckled. "I was asking where your master is."
"Master hasn't come back yet. Don't worry, no matter where he is, he's thinking of you!" Dragon said, shaking his large head with a grin.
"Thanks, I miss him too." Estelle gave a casual laugh. Then he turned to walk towards her own house. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Ella!"
Estelle looked at Dragon's happy face and thought it wasn't so bad. If people could be like robots, equipped with an intelligent system that could delete the people who cause them heartache, they might live happier lives!
