Tracy was about to open her mouth when she saw Emily approach her with a stack of files. She immediately stopped and asked loudly, "Ms. Waters, what can I get you to drink?"
"I'll have a latte." Waters replied with a smile.
"Right, just give me a sec." Tracy shot Emily a glance before heading off to prepare the coffee.
Waters then turned her attention to Emily, giving her a hearty greeting. "Emily!"
Emily responded with a nod and a smile, "Ms. Waters."
"Is the meeting over? Where's Mr. James?" Waters asked in a friendly tone.
Emily replied, "A client came in, so Mr. James is meeting with him. Is there something you need, Ms. Waters?"
"I did want to talk to Mr. James, but I can wait until he's free." Waters pulled out another bottle of perfume from her bag, making her smile even more affable. "This is for you."
Emily declined, "Thank you, Ms. Waters, but I don't need this perfume."
"It's just a small gift for you and Tracy." Waters insisted, pushing the perfume into Emily's hands. "It's normal to give gifts among friends."
Emily knew that Waters was always very tactful in handling relationships, always bringing gifts, but she still refused. "I don't usually use perfume. This gift is too expensive. I can't accept it."
"No need to be so formal, Emily!" Waters said it with a gentle smile.
"I really don't need this kind of gift!" Emily's expression was soft, but her refusal was firm.
Seeing Emily's serious expression, Waters put away the perfume and laughed. "Emily, you're the one who arranges Mr. James's schedule. Any new love interests for him lately?"
Emily looked surprised for a moment, then smiled and replied, "I only help Mr. James with his work. As for his private life, I really don't know."
Once in the CEO's office, Charlie's expression returned to normal. "Did you need something?"
Waters sat down. "Please don't misunderstand, I didn't come here to bother you. I have some real business to discuss. I heard you're planning an energy station project. Our company meets your tender conditions, so I was wondering if you could cut us some slack and let us in on this project."
"No!" Charlie replied bluntly. "If your company meets the conditions, then compete fairly."
"Charlie, you're so cold. Considering that I've been chasing after you for years, even if we can't be lovers, we're still friends. Can't you trust me a little?" Waters said softly.
"It's precisely because we're friends that we should avoid favoritism." Charlie's voice was steady and slightly distant.
"Charlie!" Waters stared at him, suddenly asking, "Are you pursuing your little assistant now? Have you changed your heart?"
Charlie squinted slightly. "Who I like has nothing to do with you."
