“Alright, meeting him when we get back is fine. His health isn't good, huh? You know, you seem a bit run-down yourself. You get out of breath just doing simple things. Sis, you can’t just focus on your career and neglect your health. When I go back this time, I’ll find a reliable old doctor for you. I’ll have him get both you and your man properly checked out. Your health is your greatest asset; you can't afford to lose it.”
The Lancaster family didn't know about Lillian’s illness. However, after working with her for a while, they could all tell that she wasn't in the best shape. She often seemed tired, listless, and short of breath. Even her complexion was pale. They had been worried about her lately, and now it turned out her mystery man was also unwell.
Stephen made a mental note to find a good doctor. It was now a top priority for his trip back home.
Lillian finished packing her things and noticed Stephen still hadn't left.
“Stephen, is there something else?”
Stephen’s mood was excellent. “Sis, haven’t you checked your phone?”
“I’ve been too busy today.” As she spoke, she picked up her phone to look.
Stephen was already smiling. “I have a feeling the Mercer family is about to go down. Was it your man’s doing?”
Lillian knew Leonard was going to make a move today, so she wasn't surprised.
She casually scrolled through the news on her phone, and then her eyes widened.
“Under these circumstances, they didn't run? They bought more? Are they insane?”
Stephen looked at Lillian. “Sis, you’re not feeling sorry for them, are you?”
“Their greed knows no bounds. I just didn’t expect them to make a move like that. Shouldn’t they have run for the hills?”
When she returned to Halfridge Villas after work, Leonard was already waiting for her at the door.
“Why are you waiting by the door? You must be tired after such a long day.”
Leonard looked a bit like a child who had done something wrong. He took her hand as they walked inside.
This time, Ethan was particularly clever. He had found an inconspicuous spot to sit quietly, holding a plate of watermelon.
But his eyes were glued to them, not blinking, eager to see how his master would explain himself.
An obedient puppy act was a rare sight, after all.
