Fortunately, she was well-known in her circles. After making a round of calls and cashing in on her reputation, she managed to borrow nearly a hundred million more.
All of it came from loan sharks, but she wasn't worried in the slightest. She rushed to invest every last dollar before the market closed.
Martin, Sabrina, and the brothers Brandon and Colin were in a similar situation. They all did whatever they could to gather every bit of cash they could find and poured it all in.
This move by the Mercer family left even Leonard stunned.
He had only intended to seriously injure the Mercer Group and the family, not witness them all turn into degenerate gamblers.
As the market closed and the numbers froze, Leonard started to get a headache. He hadn't meant to wipe them out in one go…
How was he supposed to explain this to Lillian?
Lillian was still busy today. She had entrusted the matter of the Mercer family to Leonard and felt completely at ease.
She worked until five-thirty, half an hour later than usual.
It was another Friday. The Lancaster family was heading back to Midvale for the weekend on business and would return on Monday.
To facilitate their deep collaboration, Stephen had already found and leased office space in Northwyn for the Lancaster family. Over the past couple of weeks, they had secured a location. The next step was to select a team of experienced and trustworthy people to bring over and officially establish a foothold in the capital.
The prospect of a half-hour trip was thrilling.
“That would be perfect! Think of all the time we’d save.”
“Great,” Lillian said. “Once the helicopter arrives, you can just park it at Halfridge Villas, where I live.”
“Sis, your place has a helipad? That’s some serious luxury. I’ve heard of Halfridge Villas—it’s supposed to be the top-tier housing in Northwyn. Is it that young master of Ethan’s that he’s always talking about? It’s been weeks, and you still haven’t introduced us. The whole Lancaster clan is going to have to give him our seal of approval, you know. We can’t just let you marry yourself off to anyone. Got it?”
“We’re not at that stage yet,” Lillian replied. “Things have been busy, and his health hasn't been great, otherwise I would have arranged for you to meet. Anyway, you’ll have to go there once the helicopter arrives, so you can meet him then.”
