Before he could finish, Martin cut him off. “Are you taking her side? Have you lost your mind? Can’t you see how high the company’s stock has climbed? Or perhaps you’re not fit for your position? All you think about are petty family matters. Can’t you focus on the big picture? A few days ago, you were desperate for a large sum of money for your new project. Well, here it is.”
Brandon considered his father's words. He was right. Regardless of whether their actions were morally correct, the profits were undeniable.
Once again, Brandon unhesitatingly chose profit, not saying another word in Lillian’s defense.
Colin always followed Brandon’s lead, so when Brandon fell silent, he did too.
Martin had no time for anything else. He just issued an order: “The stock will likely keep rising for the next few days. Keep a close watch on it. When the time is right, cash out a portion. The company is short on funds right now, and an extra infusion of cash will make things easier for us.”
Brandon had borrowed money from Sebastian and had already spent it before he could even think about repaying it.
He was still stressing about how to handle that debt on top of the high-interest loan he’d taken out.
And now, this! It was like money falling from the sky.
Once he solved his current financial problems and the new project was on track, he, Brandon, would open up new opportunities. This single wave of success could allow him to surpass the achievements of his father, grandmother, and all his predecessors.
Compared to personal achievement and profit, Lillian’s reputation was worthless.
Lillian had no idea she was making such a significant contribution to the Mercer family.
Meanwhile, the online smear campaign was successfully destroying her name.
Leonard held the evidence in his hands, watching the online frenzy with no sense of urgency at all.
For him, rushing now was useless.
“Dad, Mom, Bella bought some things for you. She asked me to bring them over. They’re all health supplements for seniors. You can have the kitchen prepare them for you.”
The two elders didn't even look up from their chessboard.
“Butler, take them,” the old man said.
Sebastian was baffled. They didn’t refuse? They didn’t tell him to throw the items out?
Then, his father added, “Later, when they’re prepared, distribute them to the middle-aged staff in the house.”
“Yes, sir,” the butler replied.
“Dad, what’s that supposed to mean?” Sebastian exclaimed. “Haven’t you seen the news online these past few days? Lillian’s been completely exposed. How can she even compare to Bella? You just refuse to admit that I’m right, that my judgment is sound!”
