Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 598

Charlotte went to the nursing home to visit her mother, but when she entered the room, it was empty except for a nurse folding a blanket. "Where's my mother?" Charlotte asked, approaching her.

"Mrs. Rayburn? A gentleman took her downstairs for a walk a little while ago."

Charlotte paused. "Which gentleman?" The nurse had seen her father and brother before and would have recognized them. Could it be Evander?

"A rather handsome man," the nurse replied.

A sudden blankness washed over Charlotte's mind. Shane.

She bolted downstairs, nearly calling Loretta for Shane's number on the way. But then, in a garden below, she found them. Her mother was in a wheelchair with Shane standing behind her. It seemed her mother was more lucid, as she was even chatting with him.

"Mom!" Charlotte walked straight toward them.

Mrs. Rayburn looked at her, a flicker of recognition in her eyes. "Lottie?"

Charlotte shot a quick glance at Shane before kneeling in front of her mother. "Mom, you remember me?"

"Of course, I remember. How could I not?" Mrs. Rayburn reached out to brush a stray strand of hair from Charlotte's forehead, her smile gentle. "You're my precious daughter. A mother never forgets her child."

A lump formed in Charlotte's throat. It was true. If not for Alzheimer's, what mother could ever forget her own child? She blinked back her tears and stood up. "Uncle Shane, thank you for taking my mother for a walk. Now, may I take her back?"

"Of course." Shane shrugged, letting go of the wheelchair and handing it over to her.
