Back in her car, Charlotte filled Vera in on the current situation at Rayburn Group. She needed a favor: could Vera look into a six-month-old joint project between a Rayburn subsidiary and a company called Nexum? Since Vera wasn't in Eldermere City, her inquiries wouldn't raise any suspicion.
"Of course, Charlotte. It might take me some time, though," Vera agreed without hesitation.
Charlotte smiled softly. "That's fine. Thank you."
"Don't mention it. You helped me out, so this is the least I can do. I'll never turn you down if it's something within my power."
As she pulled out of the parking lot, Charlotte put on her headset. "Sounds like you didn't just change departments—you got a promotion, too."
"I only got the chance because you recommended me to the director before you left. The daytime work is a bit tedious, but at least I don't have to work night shifts anymore."
"I only suggested you for the supply department. I didn't tell him to promote you. You have the experience and the skills, so you earned it on your own."
Vera had been transferred from the ICU to the supply department and was now the head nurse. It was a perfect fit, given her background in computer science and her familiarity with the programming and operation of various medical devices—a talent Charlotte had noticed back when they were in The Capital.
"I know, but your recommendation opened the door for me," Vera said sincerely. "You're the one who discovered my potential!"
