Cold Husband Burning Regret: The Divorce He Couldn't Handle novel Chapter 602

The phone rang and rang, unanswered. Hulda cursed, redialing with frantic impatience until she knocked a glass off the table. As the sound of shattering glass echoed in the room, the cold, hard reality hit her like she'd been abandoned by the world. How pathetic. To get to this point, she had debased herself, playing the role of a dutiful wife to an old man with one foot in the grave. She was so close—all she had to do was wait for the old fool to die, and everything she wanted would be hers. They had agreed on this! But he had betrayed her, just like that. And now, he wouldn't even show her a shred of pity?

Just as Hulda was about to break down, her phone rang. Thinking it was Quincy calling back, she snatched it up. "Quincy, what took you so long to—"

"Mother, it's me."

Recognizing Shane's voice, Hulda froze, then burst out, "What do you want? Isn't it enough that you've ruined me? I raised you for all these years! Without me, you wouldn't have the status you have today. And this is how you treat me!" Hulda was seething. The moment she learned it was Shane who had orchestrated the leak of her affair with Quincy, she had wanted to strangle him. The ungrateful snake!

"Yes, I should thank you, Mother," Shane's voice turned icy, devoid of any emotion. "If it weren't for you, how could I have endured so many years of torture and pain? To show my gratitude, I've prepared a special gift for you. I hope you like it."

"What do you mean—" Before Hulda could finish, he hung up. She stood there, stunned, for several minutes before a text message arrived. It was an old video file. As she watched it, Hulda clutched her head and screamed.

The next day, Loretta arrived at Shane's private residence. She had been there many times and knew her way around.

"Miss Rayburn, are you here to see Mr. Shane again?" the old butler, Waller, asked with a kindly smile as he emerged into the living room.
