Aurora Walton and Lucas Carter novel Chapter 1679

Who wouldn’t want a walking goldmine like that in their company?

Unfortunately, his daughter just wasn’t that lucky.

Charles turned to Michelle with a warning. “Don’t ever say things like that again.”

“Since our daughter doesn’t have that kind of fortune, we’ll just find her another good match.”

“No!”

Michelle snapped back fiercely. “My daughter is doing perfectly fine with her own career. Why must she marry someone? Can’t she live on her own?”

Charles’ face flushed red with anger. “Live on her own? Can’t you see what’s happening? The company’s already in trouble. Who can she rely on now?

“That studio of hers would’ve collapsed long ago if I hadn’t been helping her behind the scenes. Are you really that blind?”

“I don’t care,” Michelle said stubbornly, though her voice had grown weaker.

She knew deep down her daughter was capable, but she didn’t want to admit it.

After all, Yvonne was her own flesh and blood. Admitting her daughter couldn’t manage things would mean admitting she’d failed as a mother.

Michelle had always been a stubborn woman. Once she refused to acknowledge something, no one could make her.

“We’ll just take things one step at a time. Our daughter’s doing fine now. There’s no need to push her into blind dates.”

With that, she flung her sleeve and stormed back to her room.

Charles paced angrily in the living room, then finally sighed helplessly.

He turned to the housekeeper. “All right, clear the table.”

Fuming, he went into the study instead of returning to their bedroom.

But every word of their argument had reached Yvonne’s ears upstairs.

Her gaze darkened as she stood there in silence, fists slowly tightening at her sides.

Yvonne’s mind was still replaying everything Lucas had said to her on the way back.
