“So you’d better stop playing tricks behind my back to sabotage my relationship with her. I hope you understand that.”
Yvonne clenched her fists at his words.
Why? Why had she stayed by Lucas’ side for so many years without ever being truly seen, yet Aurora—someone who appeared halfway through—had managed to capture his heart so easily?
Was it because of him, or because Aurora was simply better at using her charm?
The more she thought about it, the more she convinced herself that Aurora was to blame.
Her voice trembled with urgency. “Lucas, please don’t believe anything that woman says. She’s not what she looks like. She’s manipulative. She’s only with you for your money.”
Yvonne had already done her homework. Aurora might come from a decently well-off family, but in Yvonne’s eyes, the Walton family business was nothing impressive, barely worth mentioning compared to Lucas’.
Yet despite all that, her words didn’t stir him in the slightest.
“I don’t want to hear another word like that. If you keep slandering my wife’s name, I’ll sue you for defamation.”
“Are you serious?”
Yvonne’s voice cracked with disbelief. She felt her heart ache. How could he speak so coldly after all their years of knowing each other?
“Lucas, do you even remember how long we’ve known each other? And now you’re saying this to me? Don’t you have a conscience?”
Her voice was trembling now, her tone carrying the faint sound of tears.
But it did nothing to move Lucas. His expression didn’t waver.
“Don’t try to guilt-trip me,” he said coolly. “That doesn’t work on me.”
