Aurora Walton and Lucas Carter novel Chapter 1618

Edwin glanced down at the still-drunken Yvonne and sighed softly before scooping her up into his arms.

“Charge it,” he said curtly.

Balancing her against his chest, he reached into his pocket with one hand and tossed a black card onto the table.

For a moment, the waiter didn’t quite process what he was seeing until his eyes landed on the card. Then they widened in disbelief.

“Y-yes, of course, sir. Please wait just a moment.”

He’d known from their clothes and demeanor that these two weren’t ordinary people, but this was another level.

An unlimited black card, tossed onto the table as casually as loose change.

His hands trembled slightly as he picked it up, hardly daring to breathe while running it through the POS machine. For a fleeting moment, life felt almost perfect.

When he handed the card back, he did it with both hands, bowing slightly. “Thank you for your patronage, sir. We look forward to serving you again.”

Edwin gave him a brief look but said nothing more.

Cradling Yvonne in his arms, he strode out of the bar.

All the while, she wouldn’t stay still, shifting and fidgeting in his embrace.

Finally, exasperated, Edwin gave her back a light pat. “Settle down.”

The gentle tap startled her, freezing her mid-movement. She blinked up at him from the crook of his arm, dazed and confused, her flushed face full of uncertainty.
