After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 120

After coming back to life, her attention finally shifted away from Ethan. That was when she realized Jesse’s feelings were all for Laura. If fate really wanted them together, she’d be the first to support Laura giving Jesse a chance. Jesse, as the next in line for The Mason Group, wasn’t exactly easy to handle either. If he could get along with Ethan and be his best friend, their personalities and abilities were probably pretty similar. If Jesse was truly serious about Laura and willing to fight for her, sooner or later the Mason family elders would have to give in.

A marriage between people from completely different worlds only works if both sides are willing to stick it out, face every challenge together, and find a way through anything life throws at them.

“I still turned Mr. Mason down,” Laura said quietly. “I don’t really know him, and I’m not looking to jump into anything right now.”

Isabella nodded, understanding. Her phone started buzzing just then.

She glanced at the screen. The caller ID said “Mrs. Adams.” It was Jennifer.

“Great, Jennifer’s calling,” Isabella muttered to Laura. “She probably heard Ethan’s sick and that we had a fight. I bet she’s about to chew me out. Mothers-in-law are impossible.”

Despite her grumbling, Isabella picked up.

Jennifer didn’t waste a second. “Isabella, what are you doing? Why did you take so long to answer?”

“You dare talk back to me?” Jennifer’s voice was icy. Isabella could practically picture her furious face, even if she couldn’t see it.

“Mrs. Adams, I have a voice, and I’m allowed to speak for myself,” Isabella replied, steady. “If you accuse me of something unfairly, of course I’m going to defend myself.”

Jennifer was quiet for a second, but then she snapped back. “It doesn’t matter if we accept you or not. You and Ethan had a wedding. Everyone in Cabinda knows you’re his wife. You’re expected to follow the Adams family’s rules. Stop putting yourself out in public. Do you think our family can’t afford to take care of you? Do you really need to go out and earn your own money when Ethan can support his wife?”
