After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 119

“You could be dead for days before anyone even notices. That’s just too sad. If it were me, I’d definitely get married and have a kid, so at least when I’m old and gone, there’s someone to say goodbye.”

“That’s just how our parents think. There’s no changing their minds.” Laura rolled her eyes, imitating her mom’s tone. “She always says, ‘Humanity survives because each generation gets married and has kids. If no one did that, people would just disappear from the world.’”

Laura paused, thoughtful. “If I meet the right person, I’d get married, sure. But I’m not marrying into some rich family. The gap is just too big. In those fancy circles, my job probably isn’t even considered respectable.” If she were a classic novelist, maybe those society ladies would respect her a bit. But as an online writer, she knew they’d look down on her.

Marrying someone isn’t just about the person, it’s about the whole family. And Jesse’s world was full of people with money and status.

Laura didn’t want to wedge herself into that kind of life just to end up feeling small.

Isabella, for example, had the grand wedding with Ethan, but she’d never even set foot in The Adams Estate. She wasn’t truly accepted by Ethan’s family. In high society, Isabella didn’t count for much, not without the family’s real approval.

“I really don’t care what anyone thinks. Respect is something you earn for yourself, not something handed to you.” Isabella looked at Laura. “And Laura, just because of my marriage, don’t write off all the rich guys. Mr. Mason and Mr. Carter are both good men. There are plenty of women who want to marry them, but they’ve always kept to themselves and never had a scandal. I think they’d be pretty serious about any relationship.”

In her last life, both Harold and Jesse were still single when she died. She remembered Jesse had once liked a girl, but for whatever reason, they never got together. She also knew Laura had been chased by a reader, but that never went anywhere either.

Back then, Isabella had been too focused on fighting with Natalie and Sophia’s little circle to notice anyone else’s story.
