After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 1062

What was he doing right now? Was he with his mistress?

Natalie downed another glass of wine. The mere thought of Jordan rushing off to Malvina ignited a fiery rage in her chest, a burning jealousy that gnawed at her very bones.

"Natalie? Why are you out here drinking in the middle of the night? You're pregnant."

Adelina stepped out onto the patio. She hadn't been able to sleep, her mind restless, and had come out for some fresh air only to find her daughter alone in the dark.

Closing the distance between them, Adelina snatched the glass right out of Natalie's hand. "You need to be careful," she scolded. "There are things you absolutely cannot consume right now. Did you forget about your miscarriage? You know how fragile things were last time."

"Sometimes these things happen because of genetics," Adelina continued, her tone softening slightly, "but sometimes it's lifestyle and diet."

Natalie's previous pregnancy had ended tragically due to severe genetic complications.

"Mom, I'm just so miserable," Natalie choked out, her voice thick with emotion. "I can't sleep. I just wanted a little wine to numb my mind so I could pass out. A glass or two won't hurt the baby."

"Of course it could hurt! What if you lose this one too?" Adelina's tone was sharp but laced with maternal worry. "You need to take this seriously. You and Jordan desperately need this baby to fix your marriage."

Adelina's heart ached for her daughter. She knew all about Jordan's sordid affair with his secretary. If Natalie's own hands were clean, Adelina would have marched straight over to the Lane family estate and ripped Jordan apart herself.

It was a cruel irony. They were childhood sweethearts. They had shared years of history, yet a lifetime of memories couldn't compete with a few months spent with a pretty assistant.

It was a sickening reflection of the Lane family's track record.

Infidelity practically ran in their blood. Jackson Lane, despite his age, had spent a decade carrying on a secret affair and raising a hidden son—a scandal that had completely shattered Cynthia and ended their marriage.
