That would be breaking the law. A plan that would hurt us almost as much as it hurt her wasn't worth the risk.
The best revenge would be to see Yvonne in prison for the rest of her life, rotting away in a dark cell where she’d never see the light of day.
She looked at West. “Can you get in touch with a private investigator?”
Before West could answer, Melody grabbed her phone. “I know a few paparazzi. They’d definitely be interested in a scandal like this. If we leak the story…”
She raised an eyebrow at the others. “No matter how powerful Julius is, he can't silence everyone.”
“That’s not a good idea,” Maggie countered. “First of all, we have no proof. She could turn it around on us, and we know she has a close relationship with Julius.”
The discussion in the private room grew more intense.
Janina mostly listened, chiming in occasionally. She was exhausted, it was true, but she also cherished the love that surrounded her.
She was beginning to understand that no matter how long the darkness lasted, as long as there were people willing to hold a light for you, dawn would eventually break.
That afternoon, they all flew back to Clayborne City.
It was nearly eight in the evening by the time Janina got home.
After eating dinner and taking a shower, the moment she saw Timmy and Lottie, all the pain and suffering of the past two days vanished into thin air.
Children seemed to have a kind of magic.
When you were exhausted, a single smile from your child could make you feel like you could go on forever. When you were in agony, the sight of their innocent laughter was a healing balm.
It was truly incredible.
Janina rested at home for three full days to recover, and during that time, she made a decision: she was going to learn how to box.
Maggie was fully supportive when she heard the idea, but her work schedule meant she couldn't be there to teach Janina all the time.
“I’d like to learn about boxing.”
“Then come on in. My name is Baker Neal. You can call me Baker or Mr. Neal. Take a look at these programs and see which one you're interested in.”
Baker handed Janina a flyer for the gym.
“I… I don’t know much about any of these. I want to learn self-defense. The most effective kind,” Janina said. She recognized the names of the martial arts but didn’t understand the differences.
She did know a little about Taekwondo, however, and decided to rule it out immediately as she needed something more practical for self-defense.
Baker glanced at Janina’s slender frame and thought for a moment. “Are you sure you want to do this? It’s hard work, not some fancy, choreographed routine.”
Most of his students were young; it was rare for an adult to sign up. He worried Janina would quit halfway through, which would tarnish his gym's reputation.
Everyone who trained at his gym had nothing but high praise for it, calling it “incredibly effective.” He couldn't let someone ruin that hard-earned reputation.
