A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 97

There were no tools with which to make a fire!

"What should we do?" Nigel, Connor, and Thomas exchanged glances as they asked each other the same question. After talking a little about it, they started discussing how to build a fire using the most primitive method.

"Oh! Right! We forgot about a fire starter kit!" When Wendy looked over to the three men and saw them figuring out how to start a fire, she immediately looked troubled.

"Let's try rubbing two sticks together," Nigel told her as he tried making a fire on the ground.

"That sounds good." After that, while she handled the ingredients, she would look at the three men from time to time.

After half an hour, all the ingredients were ready, but there was still no fire.

"Why don't you guys try Demi's method?" she reminded.

Before she even finished her words, Ana froze, and the expression on the latter's face stiffened as well.

When Wendy noticed it, she couldn't help but frown, thinking she couldn't even mention Demi's name once. However, she wasn't in the mood to think about Ana's feelings at that moment. Instead, Wendy stood up and approached the three men.

"What method are you referring to?" Connor asked curiously.

"In the first episode, Demi slammed two rocks together and created some sparks," Nigel explained.

"Really? However, even if we get some sparks, it still won't be enough to light up the hay, right?" Connor was in doubt.

"Well, let's just give it a try. Demi used this method to light up a candle last time," Wendy urged.

"Let me do it." After Thomas said that, he got up to find suitable rocks. Soon, he returned to the group with two rocks that were bigger than his fists. Then, he layered some hay at the bottom of the stove before hitting the rocks together as hard as he could.

"Let's lift some of the dried grass to surround the rocks. After all, the sparks might fly to the side," Nigel suggested.

"That's a good idea," Connor agreed with a nod.

So, they both grabbed some dried grass in both hands and surrounded the rocks with them. Meanwhile, Thomas continued to hit the rocks together. He did create some sparks sometimes, but they were still far from lighting up the dried grass.

After that, Ana and Sally approached them as well, and the three women stood behind the men and watched.

After ten minutes of trying, Thomas' arms were getting sore, and he couldn't help but swing them a little.
