"Mrs. Yale, do you want to give me your basket as well?" Demi asked after hearing Wendy complain about how tired she was. She proceeded to turn around and reached her hand out to Wendy.
"It's alright." Wendy said as she quickly waved her hands.
Demi had already carried one load up the mountains, and she was still carrying another load on her back. Wendy did not have it in her to trouble Demi for help.
"You're right. Demi, why don't you give me my basket and help Mrs. Yale carry hers for some time," Maria chimed in perceptively.
She hoped that Demi would be able to get along with everyone, so that life would be much easier for her in the future.
Demi shook her head and turned to Wendy. "It's alright. Mrs. Yale, you can just give me your basket. I'm strong, so it doesn't matter if I carry one load or two. I'll be making the same trip anyway."
The comments started to come in once again.
"Why does Demi feel like one of those domineering billionaires?"
"Hahaha. I think so too! She feels so reliable!"
"Ugh, she's such an attention-seeker!"
"She's just doing all of this to show-off, isn't she?"
"Can all of you haters just fuck off?"
Wendy felt a little embarrassed, so she said, "Alright, I'll just take a short rest. You can give me my basket back later."
Nigel turned around, also feeling slightly embarrassed. "Why don't I carry it instead?"
Although he already had a heavy load on his shoulders, he could not bring himself to allow a young woman to take care of his wife for him.
"Mr. Yale, it would be hard for you to maintain your balance if you carry your load like that. It'd be better for you if you follow the instructions the locals had given us," Demi reminded.
"Oh, right." Nigel had also realized his mistake.
So, Demi ended up carrying one basket on her back and another in her hand as she swiftly made her way up the mountain.
It was as if Demi didn't even see Ana, who was trailing at the end of the group. She did not even offer to help her out of the sake of being polite.
Ana's expression was tense as she glanced up at Demi. She then lowered her head to hide the resentment in her eyes.
…
As they were nearing the mountaintop, the production crew had set up a large sun umbrella on a flat piece of land.
"Now, I would like to announce that Demi is without a doubt, our winner for the day. Let's all give her a round of applause," Matt said, starting the applause himself.
