"Then, let me tie up this rabbit first," Wendy said as she held the rabbit in her arms.
"We'll help you with it." With that, the rest of the people pulled out some vines and tied up the rabbit securely.
After around 10 minutes, Demi pointed at an underbrush and whispered, "Over there!"
The seven others, aside from Demi, circled and slowly approached the underbrush. Demi held her breath as she watched their movement. After five minutes of wrestling, they finally caught a large rooster.
"Yes! We have chicken to eat!" Tyler and Maria couldn't help but cheer.
The others also smiled with excitement.
...
After half an hour, Demi and her team finally found a water source. A crystal-clear stream slowly winded down from the rocky mountain.
Three men and one young man quickly squatted down by the river and scooped up some water with their hands to drink. Although wild berries could also quench their thirst, they still couldn't be compared to drinking fresh water from the river.
"Is it okay to drink?" Sally asked curiously.
"It's okay to drink it. It's freshwater," Connor replied.
"The water's cool and sweet. Quite refreshing to drink," Tyler added with satisfaction.
"The water's not polluted since the city's far away from here," Matt said. "But it's best to not drink too much. Drinking too much of it could cause a stomach ache."
Hearing that, Wendy, Maria, and Sally also squatted down to have a sip. Demi also had a few sips of it.
"Do you guys think there's any fish in the water?" Nigel, a fishing lover, asked as he observed the river.
"I don't think so," Matt replied as he squatted beside him to look at the river.
"It's fine if there's no fish. We already have a rabbit and a chicken. After adding some vegetables, we'll have enough to eat," Nigel said.
"Yeah." Matt nodded.
"Let me see if I can catch some." Demi walked over and squatted down, dipping her hand into the water.
"Even if there's fish, you won't be able to catch any if you do it like that," Nigel said.
"You might not be able to catch one, but that doesn't mean Demi can't," Wendy lightly teased him.
"That's true." Nigel nodded with a smile.
"Then, let's split up the work and start preparing lunch," Nigel told the others as he turned around.
In the end, the three adult men were in charge of setting up the stove while Tyler and Sally collected some sticks. Wendy and Maria were in charge of preparing the chicken and the rabbit. Lastly, Demi was in charge of catching some fish.
Matt and Nigel had already helped to kill the chicken and the rabbit before anything else.
While everyone else was busy with their work, Demi was there by the river. One of her hands was in the water while the other was holding her tenth-grade math textbook and started reading it.
