A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 195

Demi's voice was ice-cold as she addressed the group. "First off, why are you eating and drinking in someone else's seat instead of your own? What, are there nails in your seats?

"Second, you claim you 'accidentally' dirtied my desk. What kind of accident leaves a pile of trash on it? Third, why didn't you clean it up if you made a mess? And fourth, when you saw me, why didn't you explain yourselves or apologize?"

Iris blurted out, "We… We were just chatting and lost track of time!"

"Yeah. That's right!" the other four echoed in unison.

Demi let out a cold laugh. "Bullies hide behind lame excuses. If you're going to do something, you should own it. And right now, you're making yourselves look pathetic!"

Jacob, who'd been quietly observing, saw right through it. It was clear these five had picked on Demi, only to end up getting beaten up by her, and now they were back here trying to play the victim.

"Alright," Jacob barked, "you four—eating snacks at someone else's desk and leaving a mess, what kind of behavior is that? I'm punishing you with a week's duty cleaning the restrooms!"

The five of them hung their heads in silence.

Then, Jacob turned his steely gaze to Demi. "And you, Demi—if you ever feel bullied, you should come to a teacher. This isn't a place for fighting. It's a school!"

Demi pressed her lips together but said nothing. Truth be told, her past experiences had taught her that reporting bullying to a teacher never helped.

Back in Lindton, she and Timothy had been repeatedly tormented by bullies. They'd told their teachers, only to get a half-hearted scolding at best—just like what was happening now.

There was no real deterrent for the ones doing the bullying.

Instead, once they had been lectured by the teachers, those bullies would only get worse, taking their frustration out on the very students who reported them. And forget about telling the teachers—even calling the police wouldn't help.

Those scumbags were minors, and in this world, minors could harm people—even kill people—and still walk away scot-free.
