A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 162

"You can say that," Demi said with a nod.

"How ridiculous! What's wrong with them? Who would love someone else's child instead of their own? I'm not saying they can't love that young lady, but they could've at least love you two equally!" Margaret's face was distorted in anger.

"Maybe I'm just not that lovable," Demi said half-jokingly.

"Nonsense!" Margaret denied it right away. "You're the most lovable child I've ever seen. The same goes for Timmy!"

After that, her eyes started tearing up. "Since they don't know how to appreciate you, you should just stay with me. I couldn't bear to let you go anyway. However, I had to let go of you so that you could live a better life. If I had known you were living a horrible life, I wouldn't have let them take you away!"

After pausing for a moment, she added, "How could you still act like nothing has happened, you silly child? If I had known what was going on, I would've talked some sense into them. What they were doing was wrong!"

"It's all in the past now, so stop being angry about it, Grandma." Demi held Margaret's hands while comforting her. However, Margaret's eyes were still teary as she looked at Demi. "I know you don't want me to worry. You've never liked to vent to me, and you're always worried about me.

"You didn't even tell me when you were bullied in school back then. You also stopped going to school by pretending to be bad at studying so that I wouldn't have so much burden. It's all my fault for being so useless. That's why you and Timmy have such a tough life."

"Please don't say that, Grandma. We would've died long ago without you," Demi said, shaking her head.

"Maybe I shouldn't have brought you home at all. That way, someone else might be able to give you a better life." Margaret blamed herself in frustration.

"If you're gonna say that, I don't know what else to say." Demi chuckled. "Let's not talk about that anymore. No matter what, I'm glad that I can be family with you and Timmy."

"I'm glad too." Margaret smiled with tears rolling down her face. "I was a lonely woman back then, and I lived without any direction. It was like my only purpose in life was to wait for my death! Then, I met you and Timmy, and I felt energized again. My life had a purpose, and I was happy because of it."

"A better life awaits us!" said Demi.

"That's right. Now that my dear Demi is successful, I'll be enjoying my life with you soon," Margaret said while ruffling Demi's hair dottingly.
