Allison and Katherine crouched behind a massive oak, breathless and trying to stay out of sight. Allison slapped her hand over her mouth as four figures on two motorcycles zoomed past, their engines roaring in the still night.

Katherine's lips were drained of color. "It's them," she whispered, her voice trembling. "The guy on the back, he's the lookout. They've come for us..."

They were stuck. The only path out of their hideaway was now patrolled by danger.

The night air was getting colder.

Allison wrapped her arms around herself, trying to keep warm.

Katherine's voice shook. "What are we going to do?"

Their biggest problem was not having a way to call for help.

If they had a phone, they could've called Lucian or the police right away.

This place felt like it was stuck in a different era.

That's exactly why the kidnappers had chosen it.

The village was mostly filled with elderly folks, who even if they wanted to help, probably couldn't.

Allison spoke with quiet resolve, "Let's stay put and lay low. We have to reach the town tonight."

She knew that once the kidnappers realized they were gone, they'd head to the town first.

And they must have left someone behind in the village to keep an eye out.

"They've got people in the village, so they won't be back too soon. The town is big. If they think we've made it there, they'll start searching for us. We need to move fast and get there.
