Sure enough, the old man’s eyes soon widened as he replied, “…Can I take your word for that?”
“You can! Just look at this bracelet of mine, sir! It’s clearly an expensive one, so giving you that much rice is no problem for my parents!”
He had to admit that her pearly white bracelet seemed pricey, so after pulling his beard for a while, he ultimately nodded before saying, “…Deal! Honestly, you just need to walk past two paddy fields and climb up that hill to get to the main road. Come, I’ll take you there.”
“T-thank you…!” exclaimed the overjoyed woman as she quickly bowed thrice in her appreciation! Things were finally looking up again…!
Alas, as she followed the old man through winding paths, she soon began feeling nervous again. After all, the terrain felt rather familiar… and soon enough, they were standing in front of the cowshed that she had just escaped from…!
Just as she was about to ask whether they had taken a wrong turn, she noticed a second too late that the old man’s expression had turned sinister… and before she could react, she had already been pushed into a large pit within the cowshed!
She had seen the pit the night before, and though she had kept her distance from it, she never imagined falling into this mud-filled pit! Why was this here? Only God knew! Regardless, the mud was up to her chest, and after looking up in horror, she was greeted by the sight of the sneering old man!
