Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 234

“Is that so.”

Silvia didn’t say another word. She slowly closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Once Silvia was asleep, Kent quietly got up. He slipped on his jacket and made his way into the living room.

Pulling out his phone, he dialed his assistant. “Any progress on what I asked you to investigate?” he asked, his tone cool and steady.

The assistant, hearing the frosty edge to Kent’s voice, responded quickly, “Yes, Mr. Parsons. The bakery owner said someone approached them and paid a hefty sum to have their bread ingredients switched.”

Changed the ingredients...

Kent took a deep breath, his jaw tightening. “Did you find out who was behind it?” he pressed.

“I asked,” the assistant replied, frustration clear in his voice, “but the bakery owner claims they have no idea who the person really was.”

He’d tried everything—offered extra cash and coaxed the truth as best he could—but whoever orchestrated this had covered their tracks well. There was no way the bakery owner would be told the real identity.

Still, after a lot of back-and-forth, he’d gotten this much: someone had come in with new bread ingredients, insisting the bakery use them for a special order. The bread was meant specifically for Silvia’s company.

At first, the bakery owner had been reluctant, but the visitor was persuasive, claiming to represent the original customer. Reluctantly, the bakery owner gave in.

They’d assumed the new ingredients were just high-end, but only realized there was something wrong when the assistant showed up—those ingredients were tainted.
