Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 220

“It’s fine. Most people have left by now. Everything’s under control here.”

Silvia smiled, her eyes gentle and warm.

The security guards saw she was insistent, and since they were eager to get home themselves, they nodded quickly, thanked her, and left.

Now, Silvia was the only one left in the office. She sat at her desk, quietly sorting through a stack of paperwork.

Bzzz. Bzzz.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed. Seeing Kent’s name on the screen, Silvia’s lips curled into a faint smile. She pressed “accept” and spoke with a hint of apology, “Sorry, I got caught up with work tonight and forgot to text you. Did you wait long?”

“I just finished a meeting myself,” Kent replied. “I’ll come pick you up now.”

He’d messaged her earlier, and when she hadn’t replied, he’d worried she might be upset. Hearing her voice now put him at ease.

“Alright,” Silvia agreed.

She hung up and went back to her work.

She lost track of time until the faint sound of footsteps broke the silence. Silvia looked up, her eyes dry and tired from staring at documents for too long.

To her surprise, standing in the doorway was Shipley.

For a moment, Silvia wondered if she was seeing things. She blinked, but Shipley’s figure didn’t disappear.

“Don’t come any closer.”

Her voice tightened instantly. Whatever sense of security she’d felt vanished in a second, replaced by sharp tension.
