Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 216

Silvia couldn’t help but laugh as she caught a flicker of discomfort on Kent’s face. “Alright, Kent.”

She still couldn’t quite bring herself to call him “husband.” The word felt foreign, stuck somewhere in her throat.

After saying goodbye to Kent, Silvia made her way alone to the office. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she spotted two security guards waiting at the entrance.

When they saw her, the guards straightened up as if they’d known her for years. “Don’t worry, Miss Ashford. With us here, no one’s going to bother you.”

“Thank you,” Silvia replied with a small nod, then walked inside without another word.

Her coworkers were already gathered in the open-plan office, and as Silvia entered, their eyes flicked up, curiosity practically buzzing in the air.

“Silvia, after what happened yesterday, you went straight for security?” someone teased.

“Poor thing. Who’d have thought that good-looking guy was actually a creep?”

A ripple of gossip went through the room at the mention of Shipley.

Silvia pressed her lips together, then spoke up, her voice calm but firm. “Let’s focus on our work. This has nothing to do with any of you.”

Everyone nodded, falling quiet—after all, Silvia was their boss now.

As the chatter faded, Silvia glanced toward the door where the security guards stood sentinel. With any luck, their presence would keep Shipley at bay.

The afternoon passed uneventfully until, at four o’clock, one of the guards entered, carrying an enormous box.

“Miss Ashford, Mr. Parsons asked me to bring you some afternoon tea.”
