“Yes.” Kent started the car, his eyes lingering on Silvia for a moment before turning back to the road. His voice was calm, but there was a subtle warmth beneath the surface. “We’ve been married for quite some time, but you’ve never visited the Parsons estate. There’s a family dinner tonight. The family would like to meet you.”
“Your family? Of course, it’s about time I visited.”
Silvia had thought about visiting the Parsons family before, but life kept getting in the way and the idea slipped her mind.
Aside from exchanging a few pleasantries during their engagement party, she’d had virtually no contact with the Parsons family. Truth be told, she barely knew anything about his relatives.
Kent, on the other hand, had visited the Ashford family several times and seemed to have her family figured out inside and out.
Still, Silvia wasn’t too worried about getting along with the Parsons family. After all, if they’d managed to raise someone like Kent, their values couldn’t be too different from her own. Surely they wouldn’t make things unnecessarily difficult for her.
The Parsons Mansion was located on the outskirts of the city—a sprawling estate built generations ago, carved out of its own private grounds. The place looked less like a home and more like a grand European manor, complete with manicured lawns and impressive architecture.
As the car rolled to a stop, Silvia gazed up at the imposing building, her eyes flickering with a curious, unreadable emotion.
In truth, the Ashford family was just as wealthy and influential in the city as the Parsons, though the Ashfords had only come into their fortune in recent decades. They didn’t have the deep roots the Parsons did.
“Don’t worry.” Kent’s deep voice broke into her thoughts as he noticed her surveying the mansion. “Whatever they say, you don’t have to take it to heart. If you’re ever unsure how to handle something, let me take care of it.”
“Alright.”
Silvia nodded, though she couldn’t shake a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach. Kent almost made it sound like she was about to face an interrogation.
