Johnny had already placed the order for both of them. He pushed his glasses up and motioned for Silvia to take a seat.
As soon as she settled in, Johnny spoke quietly. “Miss Ashford, there’s something I need to tell you. I’m afraid it’s not exactly good news.”
Silvia pressed her lips together, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes. “Go ahead. Just say it.”
Johnny hesitated for a moment, then continued, “Your grandmother’s medical records—the ones from the year she died—were tampered with.”
He set the file he’d been holding on the table in front of Silvia, sliding the papers over to her.
Pointing to the reports, his tone grew heavy. “Right here, you can see it clear as day. Someone deliberately tried to cover up the real cause of your grandmother’s death. There are a lot of inconsistencies in the details.”
Inconsistencies?
Silvia’s breath caught in her throat as the weight of his words settled over her.
“Look closely,” Johnny said, flipping through the documents. “These two sets of records—aside from the personal details—are identical. The symptoms, the medications, even the doctor’s notes and punctuation marks—they all match up word for word.”
How could this be?
Silvia’s gaze grew unfocused as she scanned the two medical charts from top to bottom, searching for any difference.
“So, one of these records must be a fake?” she asked through clenched teeth.
Just like the will she’d received back then—there had been a forged copy of that, too.
Johnny nodded tightly. “Yes. I’ve confirmed that your grandmother’s medical file was forged. But going any further with the investigation is tricky—this involves confidential hospital records, and digging them up won’t be easy.”
