"I didn't file a police report, did I?"
Silvia looked at the officer, suspicion flickering in her eyes.
That day, she’d nearly been hit by a car, but thanks to Kent, she’d walked away without a scratch. The whole thing had shaken her, sure, but not enough to make her march down to the station and press charges. If anything, she blamed herself—she hadn’t been paying attention to the traffic.
"You didn’t?" The officer glanced down at his notes, frowning slightly. After double-checking, he nodded. "Ah, it was your partner who filed the report."
Partner?
The word caught Silvia off guard. She tapped her fingers lightly on the table as the realization struck—he must mean Kent.
But why would Kent go to the trouble of reporting it on her behalf?
Silvia’s brow furrowed. The whole thing felt like a nuisance. Now, because of the report, she’d have to go to the police station and sign some paperwork.
"If you don’t have any objections," the officer continued, "the family of the other party would like you to sign a mediation agreement. The driver who hit you suffers from a mental illness."
Besides, Silvia hadn’t been physically hurt at all. Even if she refused to sign, the case would likely be closed soon anyway.
She let out a slow breath and agreed.
So, before she’d even had a chance to sit down at home and work through the steps of starting her new business, she found herself leaving Chronos Gardens and heading straight back out to the police station.
