[Dorothea and I are having a baby! 🎉🎊]

The older folks barely checked their phones. They were out fishing, totally unplugged. Scott almost never used his phone at work, and Garth was still sitting in class.

Dorothea scrolled through the family group chat, amused at how quiet it was. She glanced over at Latham, who was stubbornly poking at his phone, refusing to give up.

[Latham: Scott, is your phone broken? Did you even see the group chat?]

[Scott: What’s up?]

Latham actually thought Scott’s phone had glitched, so he called him straight away. “Scott, Dorothea and I are having a baby! I’m going to be a dad, and you’re about to become an uncle!

Hello? Scott, did you hear me?”

Scott was speechless for a few seconds, caught off guard by the news. Then he finally laughed. “Congratulations.”

“That’s it? Why don’t you sound more excited? Are you jealous I’m having a daughter and you’re not?”

Latham was being ridiculous, but Scott just kept it short. “I have to get to a meeting. We’ll talk when I get home.”

Latham didn’t love the reaction, but he shrugged it off.

“Honey, let’s go pick up Garth from school. He should be getting out right about now.”

Garth’s face lit up with curiosity and excitement when he saw Latham and Dorothea waiting for him.

“Dorothea, why did you guys come to get me today?”

Dorothea smiled. “Well, Garth, we came because we have some big news for you.”

Garth’s big eyes sparkled. “What is it?”

“Garth, Dorothea and I are having a baby. In ten months or less, you’re going to have a sweet little sister.”

“You’re getting a new cousin. Are you excited?”

“But don’t be jealous. If you really want, you can just ask your parents for a baby sister too.”

Garth’s excitement faded a little after Latham’s teasing. Uncle Latham wasn’t here just to pick him up. He’d come to brag.

He stayed grumpy all the way home, stomping through the front door.

“What’s up with him?” Ladd asked, raising an eyebrow. “Latham, why are you messing with your nephew again?”
