“Fine, but we’re signing the agreement first. I don’t trust you at all when it comes to working together.”
Nelly’s voice was icy. She didn’t hold back.
Brody didn’t argue this time. He just nodded. “Alright. I meant it when I said I’d listen to you from now on.”
That seemed to take a little edge off Nelly’s tone.
They were about to head back to the Garland family villa, but as they got close, they noticed a car following them. Reporters must have tracked them down already.
Nelly paused to think, then told Brody to turn around and go to Never instead.
Never’s building was secure, with keycard access at every entrance. Reporters couldn’t get in.
Once Nelly settled into her office, Brody looked around, a flash of surprise in his eyes. The woman who used to follow him everywhere had somehow become his equal. He couldn’t tell if he felt proud of her or a little jealous. His feelings were a mess, but they weren’t bad.
He walked over to the window, taking in the city view. “Nice spot. Did you pick this place?”
“Brody, don’t even think about using the Watson family against me. You’re not getting anything from me. And if you ever wanted to go down together, it’s already too late.”
Nelly spoke as she dialed her lawyer, her tone cool and businesslike.
She didn’t have any illusions about Brody. She figured the businessman in him had finally come out. Feelings fade, but interests last. Brody just wanted to use their relationship as leverage. That was a mistake she’d only make once.
“I’m not planning anything. You’re reading too much into it,” Brody said softly. He moved closer, noticing she was already hard at work, pen racing across the page.
