When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 403

The lady in front of her introduced herself as Nicholas’ sister. She said she just wanted to talk, but from the start, it was clear Sheila had no choice in the matter. Her phone was taken away, and she was forced to spill everything she knew about Nelly and Brody.

“Ms. Olson, why are you so nervous? We’re not enemies. Actually, we’re partners.” Britney’s red lips curled into a sly smile as she walked behind Sheila, resting her hands lightly on Sheila’s shoulders. “I know you have feelings for Brody, and you’ve put up with Nelly for way too long. Right now it is your best shot…”

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the whole city of Westhaven sparkled in the night. Sheila glanced at the laptop on the coffee table. The screen showed a freshly written headline:

Exposing the Real Watson Heiress: Homewrecker, Rival, and Cast-off Wife.

There was no mistaking it. Britney was out to ruin Nelly.

Sheila hesitated, looking up at Britney. “Why are you doing this? Nelly’s your family… she’s your…”

“Because I can’t stand her either,” Britney cut in, her voice flat. “Just like you, I don’t want her to come out on top.”

“But Nicholas has always treated me well. I can’t…” Sheila bit her lip, hiding behind Nicholas’s name again. Even if she resented Nelly, she had no intention of becoming someone’s pawn in this mess.

Britney let out a cold laugh. “If Nicholas was really on Nelly’s side, he wouldn’t have helped you today, and you wouldn’t be here right now.”

“So, this is Mr. Watson’s idea?” Sheila asked, surprised.

Britney didn’t answer directly. She picked up a wine glass and pressed it into Sheila’s hand. “I’m giving you a chance to get even. If you don’t want it, that’s your call. But think about it. If Nelly takes over the Watson family, do you really think there’ll be room for you in Westhaven?”

With that, Britney turned to go.

Sheila jumped to her feet. “If Brody finds out I’m the one who leaked this, he’ll never forgive me…”

Britney stopped. “What are you so scared of?” She glanced back. “Do you really think a man could care about a woman who has nothing to her name?”
