Sheila looked completely satisfied. “Relax, Nelly’s about to be finished, because…” She leaned in close, her lips almost brushing Selina’s ear. “As long as she stays in Westhaven, I’ll make her life a living nightmare.” Her voice was sweet and soft, but the words sent a chill down Selina’s spine. Then, with a little twirl, Sheila lifted her skirt and danced off to her room, her steps light and her mood even lighter.
Nelly, I’ve got Nicholas on my side now. What are you going to use to fight me?
Selina watched Sheila’s figure disappear down the hallway. For some reason, she felt a cold shiver deep in her bones. Even the diamond necklace around her neck felt icy, so she quickly took it off and tucked it away, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling.
…
Nelly had her own busy day, but this time she wasn’t dealing with clients or contract drama. She was getting ready to head to the Capital. The night before, Jonah had brought Teddy to meet Nicholas. Nicholas only gave them an hour, and that was just because of Howard. He accepted the painting Howard sent, so, even though he clearly didn’t want to, he let Nelly plead her case.
Nicholas told Teddy that if they could find one person, he would give Nelly six months and step back from the business competition. The man’s name was Ben Brown. He was seven years younger than Nicholas, and all they knew was that he vanished from the Capital three years ago. Nicholas gave them just three days. If Nelly could find Ben in that time, he’d keep his word. If not, the whole deal was off.
Nicholas had been searching for Ben for years and never found him, so everyone knew this was basically an impossible task. It was just a way to get Nelly to give up. Teddy had a splitting headache over it last night, but Nicholas wouldn’t budge. Jonah was frustrated too and was already thinking about what else they could do. If Nicholas wouldn’t help, there was no way to force it.
