When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 132

“I think I finally get why Mom was always so obsessed with stargazing.”

Nelly spoke out of nowhere.

Jonah glanced over, but before he could respond, Nelly kept going, almost like she was talking to herself.

“Maybe with some memories, the best part isn’t the view, it’s how you feel in that moment.”

“Like right now, with you here, Jonah. It just feels… perfect.”

Her words trailed off as sleepiness took over. She leaned her head against the window and slipped her eyes shut.

Jonah watched her quietly. After a moment, something stirred in his chest, and his lips curled into a small, almost involuntary smile.

...

Two days later, Nancy’s shoot finally wrapped up.

As Nelly was driving Nancy home, Nancy immediately noticed the bracelet on Nelly’s wrist.

“Wait… why do you have that bracelet?”

Nelly spotted the shock in Nancy’s eyes. “Jonah gave it to me. Is something wrong?”

“He gave you this?” Nancy sounded like she couldn’t believe it.

Nelly was genuinely curious. “You’ve seen it before?”

“That bracelet is a Watson family heirloom.” Nancy’s expression tightened.

Michael had bought the ruby at a royal auction overseas, just to propose with it. He’d then had it custom-made into a bracelet by a famous craftsman back home.

But for some reason, it ended up with Felix.

Nancy never knew why Felix gave it to Jonah.

She remembered seeing it as a child. Her mom always said it was a family treasure, worth as much as an entire company. Back then, her mom hoped Felix would save the bracelet for Nancy’s wedding.

“So that’s what it is…”

Nelly felt awkward, especially with the way Nancy was staring at her wrist.

Why would Jonah give her something so precious?

“Jonah’s treating you pretty well,” Nancy commented, and there was definitely a hint of jealousy in her voice.

“Well, I’m new to the Watson family. Maybe he thought I looked a little broke and just lent it to me to help me look good,” Nelly said, trying to sound casual.

But Nancy just laughed, like Nelly’s explanation was ridiculous.

“He’s not the type to do a favor for nothing. Jonah doesn’t go out of his way for anyone unless there’s something in it for him. If he’s being this nice to you, he must want something.”

Nelly could feel the tension between them, so she just went quiet.

Soon, they pulled up to Nancy’s place.
