“Nancy?”
Rudy froze, completely thrown off guard.
Right after, Britney’s face shifted. She glanced at Rudy, her eyes full of questions.
But Rudy was more lost than anyone. She lost touch with Nancy just yesterday. How had she ended up here out of nowhere?
With everyone watching, Nancy walked straight over to Nelly’s side.
Nelly shot her a quick smile, then turned to Michael. “Grandpa, this is Nancy. She’s your granddaughter, so I don’t think she needs any introduction.”
Michael’s frown deepened, his expression turning more complicated as he looked over at Felix.
Felix, for his part, was too stunned to react, his gaze locked on Nancy, emotions swirling behind his eyes.
Jonah was the only one who seemed completely calm. He dropped his gaze, that knowing little smile tugging at his lips.
Nelly had called him yesterday to ask about Nancy. Still, he hadn’t expected her to actually bring Nancy to her side. That was a surprise.
When Jonah looked up, he saw Nelly facing the Watson family, confidence all over her face. She looked so dazzling in that moment, it was almost hard to watch.
“Grandpa, she is telling the truth. I was there that day.”
Michael glanced sharply at Rudy.
Rudy, who’d been limping just a second ago, suddenly straightened up. “Nancy! What are you doing? You’d better think twice before you say anything!”
“Nancy,” Nicholas said, his tone annoyed, “you’ve always been close to the Chandlers. What’s going on?”
Britney jumped in before Nancy could answer. “Nancy, are you fighting with Rudy? Or are you just lying because your real dad is protecting Jonah, so you want to help him too?”
She managed to spin things around, making Nancy look like the villain.
Everyone in the Watson family knew Nancy got along well with the Chandlers, and she’d cut ties with Felix ages ago. Even if Nelly was telling the truth, it made no sense for Nancy to suddenly side with her and attack the Chandlers.
Michael’s expression darkened. He couldn’t help but look at Nelly differently now. This new granddaughter had just come home and already turned the family upside down, even dragging Nancy and the Chandlers into it.
“Grandpa, I know I haven’t been home in a while, but I’ve never lied to you. Besides, I have proof.”
Nancy knew exactly how Britney and the rest worked, so she didn’t waste words. She handed her phone straight to Michael.
There it was, the so-called “proof.”
It was a recording of Rudy, his own voice coming up with the plan and pitching it to Nancy.
Michael had someone play the audio for everyone to hear. Instantly, Britney and Nicholas both went pale.
Britney kept quiet, but Nicholas’s face changed. “Rudy, is this real?”
