Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 580

The two of them looked at each other, not sure what to make of the scene.

Josh frowned. “Did Madeline kick him out?”

“No way. Are they fighting again?”

They hurried toward Julian, glancing at the closed door, then back at his stormy face.

Josh hovered for a second, then tried, “Julian?”

“Yeah,” Julian answered, his voice low.

At least he was still responding. Josh took that as a good sign and moved in a little closer. “You and Madeline have a fight?”

“No.”

“Then what’s up?”

Julian took a long drag from his cigarette. He didn’t say a word. When the cigarette burned down to the filter, he straightened, shoulders squared, the kind of presence that made people nervous without him having to say anything.

When Julian moved to leave, both men quickly fell into step behind him.

“Julian, where are you going?”

“Out for some air.”

The nights were still cold, even though the weather was warming up. With only a thin shirt on, Julian headed outside, and the other two followed him without thinking twice.

Meanwhile, Madeline had just finished bathing the kids. Noah and Oliver wanted to sleep with her, and she was happy to let them. Right now, she was reading them a bedtime story, her voice soft, eyes flicking to the door every now and then. It was obvious she was waiting for someone.

“Mommy,” Noah whispered.

Madeline looked down, brushing a hand through her son’s hair. “Yeah, Noah?”

“Why isn’t Daddy home yet?”

Both boys worried about Julian, and honestly, so did Madeline.

She paused, thinking. “Maybe something came up. You two get some rest first. I’ll call him in a little while to check, okay?”

“Okay.”

Madeline glanced at her phone. It was already after eleven. She opened her contacts and hovered over Julian’s name for a long time, but in the end, she didn’t call.
