Julian just let out a cold laugh. “There’s really nothing left to say. I don’t believe a single word that comes out of your mouth.”
His words hit Helene straight in the heart. She looked at him, her face full of hurt.
“Am I really that untrustworthy to you?”
Julian’s voice stayed icy. “What do you think?”
She nodded, forcing a bitter smile.
Julian turned and started to leave, but Helene suddenly yelled after him, “What if I told you that Madeline’s mother is the one who killed your father?”
Julian stopped dead in his tracks.
Those words sliced through the air and landed in his ears, each one sharp as glass.
“Madeline’s mother, Shelly, is the one who killed your father all those years ago. That’s why Christian has always tried to keep you and Madeline apart. There’s a blood feud between you, Julian...”
“Enough. Shut up.” Julian’s voice was so harsh it made Helene flinch.
“Julian, what—?”
He turned around, his eyes pitch black and terrifying. “Do you honestly think I’d believe something like that?”
Madeline’s mother killed his father? Please.
So riduculous.
Only someone desperate would come up with such an unbelievable lie.
His father died in a car accident. How would Madeline’s mother have anything to do with that?
