“More?” Julian’s voice was teasing, but his eyes flickered with something darker. Before Madeline could answer, his warm lips pressed against hers.
She barely had time to think, let alone refuse. He pulled her close, kissing her with an intensity that left her breathless. The air inside the cramped car felt thick, every inch charged with something electric.
Julian’s kisses grew desperate. At some point, his fingers found the zipper on her dress and slid it down. His hand slipped inside, the heat of his touch sending a shock through her body. Madeline shivered, a soft gasp escaping her lips before she could stop it.
She tried to rein him in, opening her eyes in an attempt to gather her thoughts. That’s when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something outside. “Ah!”
Her sudden scream snapped Julian out of his haze. For a moment, he looked guilty, worried he’d hurt her. “You alright?”
Madeline buried her face in his chest, her voice trembling as she pointed outside. “Someone… there’s someone out there.”
Julian twisted around, spotting a figure standing just beyond the car. His brow furrowed with concern, but he stroked Madeline’s hair, trying to calm her down. “It’s okay. They can’t see inside.”
Her lashes fluttered. Finally, she lifted her head and peeked through the window. The moment she recognized the person outside, she froze. “It’s him.”
“Who?”
Julian straightened up, gently helping Madeline sit up beside him. “You know that guy?”
“That’s the man who saved me at Claire’s villa,” she said quietly.
It was the same young man, only now his blond hair was dyed black. Even so, Madeline recognized him instantly. He was peering in through the window, clearly searching for someone.
“I’ll go talk to him.”
Julian caught her wrist just as she reached for the door. “Are you really going out like that?”
Madeline glanced down at her crumpled dress, then shot him a glare. “Whose fault do you think that is?”
With a patient smile, Julian reached over and smoothed out her dress. “My bad.”
Once he’d helped her tidy up, he grabbed a jacket and draped it over her shoulders. Madeline checked her reflection, making sure she looked presentable, then finally stepped out of the car.
